Dating to the 1950s, this distinctive collection of Gien Rambouillet ceramic plates was created for the French Presidency and the Château de Rambouillet, a historic residence long associated with presidential hunting parties. The decorative scenes are by French painter Jean Bertholle, a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, whose illustrations bring the woodland setting to life with richly colored depictions of game and forest animals, surrounded by delicate foliage. Each plate was individually hand-painted and carries the artist's “JB” signature.
