Made in the Mixe region of Oaxaca, these vessels are known as ollas (multi-purpose pot), and are functional as well as decorative. This type of pottery is surface-fired over pine logs and firewood and then decorated with resin from the wood, making each piece truly individual. It is porous, and it will sweat if holding water for a long period of time.
