Sister Carmel Oil Stick Painting No. 1


Sister Carmel Wisner (1902-2005) was a Benedictine nun at the Queen of Angels Monastery in Mt. Angel, Oregon. She became a nun in 1928 and spent most of her years teaching at Mt. Angel Academy, eventually becoming a librarian in the 1950s and worked in the Mt. Angel library until her retirement in the 1960s. She began making drawings in her seventies and continued to make art well into her nineties.
