Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of the author and a detailed chromolithographic title page, Bennett (p. 44): "Drawings done chiefly by Mr. Edwin Sheppard of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, acknowledged as the best ornithological artist in America."
