This extraordinary work of antique folk art combines scrollwork, calligraphy, and sponge printing. Made in 1780 in France by an untrained artist named Celina David, this work displays the skill used in creating gothic capital letters, also known as 'Masjuscules', and lower case letters in the style of petite ronde. The pink ground is spongework. Fine condition with slight tanning at the edges.
