Kim Manfredi’s paintings traverse the line between abstraction and representation, street art and surrealism, the spiritual and the tangible. In this series, she explores contemplative abstraction, offering the viewer a space for reflection. Influenced by the spiritual works of Hilma af Klint, Agnes Pelton, and the light-driven art of James Turrell, Kim uses oil and spray paint to craft meditative compositions. Flowers, landscapes, and the body become iconic elements. Fluorescent patches and metallic slashes evoke the glow of a Southern California sunset. Mysterious overspray, puddles and drips merge the raw energy of street art with traditional oils. These works offer a feminist reinterpretation of themes such as luminosity, temple, perception, and power. They invite an uninhibited gaze where color, material, and surface entice while simultaneously challenging conventional narratives about art, religion, and personal identity.
