Yann Gerstberger in Mexico City
On my last visit to Mexico City in April, I read about an exhibition by French artist Yann Gerstberger being held at Galería OMR. Titled Ice News and Freeway Fetishes, the exhibition focused on tapestries made of household materials; sculptural figures; and a chalk mural. I was most intrigued by the tapestries (being the textile junkie that I am), made of hand-dyed mop yarns. The tapestries almost looked pixilated, portraying abstract shapes, animals, and faces that were a nod to folk art and surrealism. Large in scale, each tapestry floated in front of painted walls, adding another layer of dimension and texture. The exhibition has since closed, but you can follow Yann Gerstberger’s work here.
