Mami Wata Surf: I’m psyched for the Mami Wata Pop-Up, going down for the next 4 months on Abbot Kinney in Venice. Mami Wata is a surf brand that was founded on a love of surfing, design, and Africa – with a strong social mission that supports African youth therapy surf organizations. The brand also published a book during the pandemic titled Afro Surf, and it is hands down one of my favorites books in my library. Right now I’m coveting this Mami Wata surfboard and just might go for it.
FT How To Spend It: I always pick up a copy of the Financial Times when I’m in London and love perusing the How To Spend It luxury magazine for its well-rounded selection of topics ranging from LVMH acquiring every influential brand under the sun to hosting dinner parties to my most recent favorite topic: the ironic anti-beauty of goth makeup and hair. Lately I’ve been turning to FT more than my usual news sources and I just subscribed to the weekend print edition.
Fabrizio Casiraghi: I love the sensual interiors of architect Fabrizio Casiraghi and want to wine and dine in this room 24/7. Most recently added to his design repertoire are a collection of fantastic screens, like this one covered in Anni Albers fabric. Beyond.
WTF with Marc Maron and Flea: Never a huge fan of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, but always a fan of Flea and his magical prowess. Marc Maron recently interviewed him on his podcast and it was so inspiring, so entertaining, and a beautiful immersion into the world of jazz and punk. Highly recommend.
WITCH: We Intend to Cause Havoc: On my weekend to-do list is streaming this documentary from the legendary 1970s Zambian psych-rock band, WITCH. Released in 2019, it “traces the band’s legacy from the mines of the Zambian Copperbelt province to festival stages in Europe after an unlikely revival that, in the late 2010s, brought Witch out of Africa for the first time.” Read, watch, stream.
