Antique French Calligraphy Artwork No. 6
This extraordinary work of antique folk art combines scrollwork, calligraphy, and sponge printing. Made in 1780 in France by an untrained artist, this work features decorative motifs surrounding a poem titled, "La Rose et La Violette", describing the difference between a rose and a violet. It reads, "One is timid, the other a coquette; one loves light, the other shade; one would choose to live for just one day attracting all kinds of admiration, the other does not wish to create envy in others but lives for a whole season." Fine condition with slight tanning at the edges. Unframed.
