Antique French Calligraphy Artwork No. 3
This extraordinary work of antique folk art combines scrollwork, calligraphy, and sponge printing. Made in 1780 in France by an untrained artist, this work displays the skill used in creating the letters of the alphabet, incorporating a quote: "L'ennui est une maladie dont le travail est le remede," which translates to, "Boredeom is an illness for which work is the remedy." The ground is spongework and the dark blue is watercolor. Fine condition with slight tanning at the edges and a small black mark at the right. Unframed.
Measurements: 8.75 x 11.75 in.
